Third field research mission
The Art of Silk Museum of the Tsiakiris Family

The EIREST research team, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, represented by Francesca Cominelli and Clara Vecchio, realized the third field research mission in the framework of the project Tracks4Crafts, co-founded by the European Union.

This mission took place from the 15th to the 19th of January 2024, in Soufli and Athens, Greece, driven by one of the Tracks4Crafts pilot cases, The Art of Silk Museum of the Tsiakiris Family. The aim of the Art of Silk Museum is to highlight and preserve the rich tradition of silk weaving and production in the area.

We were able to explore in depth the silk ecosystem, with a focus on the framing, safeguarding and transforming system, thanks to the meeting of differents actors: the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, the Silk Museum of the Piraeus Bank Group Cultural Foundation, the Bourouliti family and the Folk Museum “Gnafala”,  the Handicraft center at the Filakto village, the Soufli Municipality, the Association of Businessmen in Soufli area, the Botanical Project of Androni Theodora, the Penelope Loom Heritage workshop of Meropi Ververi, the Christiana Vardakou workshop and the TaxideutesPolitismou Association.
