"What her heart conceals, her apron reveals" Exhibition
Art of Silk Museum

The Art of Silk Museum in Soufli hosted a special exhibition titled "What her heart conceals, her apron reveals" from November 6 to November 17, 2024.

The exhibition featured 35 traditional aprons from various regions of Evros, part of the private collection of collector Giorgos Topalidis and has been curated by archaeologist and museologist Naya Dalakoura and textile artist Giorgos Tsiakiris.

Its aim was to preserve and showcase local craftsmanship while raising awareness of the region’s rich textile traditions. By highlighting these aprons, the exhibition celebrated Evros' cultural heritage and the intricate weaving and embroidery techniques passed down through generations.

In addition, the exhibition promoted cultural tourism by drawing attention to Evros' unique crafts, potentially fostering greater interest in the region. It also served as an educational tool, encouraging intergenerational dialogue and inspiring younger generations to engage with their cultural roots. It also supported the preservation of cultural identity and the continuation of traditional craftsmanship, contributing to the sustainability of these valuable skills for the future.

The exhibition can be visited electronically through the museum's app until January 7, 2025! The app is available on devices with iOS and Android software.

In the app, select “Exhibit” and enter the category “Jewish Aprons.
