As part of a national initiative to revive traditional crafts, the Greek Ministry of Culture has launched 19 new craft schools across the country, focusing on disciplines such as weaving, ceramics, and woodworking. In the region of Evros, three new weaving schools have opened their doors, operating as Lifelong Learning Centers under the University of West Attica.
The Art of Silk Museum team recently visited these schools to meet with students and instructors, explore the programs, and discuss the future of weaving in the region. The visit aimed to understand the students’ interest in traditional crafts and to explore opportunities for future collaboration.
This visit was a great first step in building connections and future partnerships that could help promote and preserve traditional Greek crafts in Evros and beyond.
